Hearing Evaluations for Children and Adults:
If you suspect hearing loss, you will need a comprehensive hearing test from an audiologist. The audiologist will examine your ears, perform the hearing test, and then explain the test results. Audiometric evaluations are available for persons of all ages at the Place for Better Hearing. Performing an audiological evaluation on a child often takes more time than for adults. It is important to schedule a hearing test for a child during the time of day when you as the parent know that your child will be “at their best”. Try to avoid scheduling an appointment when the child is tired or cranky, such as during nap times. Play audiometry is a testing procedure used to make testing fun for the child and help achieve the most accurate results when testing children. We adjust the test procedure to the age and ability of the child. Most children can be evaluated in one session, although it is not uncommon to see a child twice.

Hearing Aid Consultations:
After your hearing test, your audiologist will review the test results with you and discuss your options. During a hearing aid consultation, the audiologist will discuss the different styles of hearing aids and see which type of circuitry will meet your hearing loss and communication needs.

New Hearing Aids:
Hearing aids come in a variety of sizes, prices, and technologies so finding a solution to hearing loss has never been easier. Choosing the right hearing aid requires some thought concerning your lifestyle, communication needs, hearing test results, and manual dexterity. Hearing aids that are custom-made to fit your ear include the completely-in-the-canal, in-the-canal, and in-the-ear hearing aids. Behind-the-ear (BTE) style hearing aids can have the same high-tech circuitry available in custom-made hearing aids. At the Place for Better Hearing, we sell and service Starkey hearing aids.

Bluetooth Wireless Communication Devices:
Unlike traditional wireless headsets, the SoundPort EarSet features a
custom-fit earpiece which is professionally molded and acoustically
tuned to fit the exact contours of your outer ear.
Fully vented so that nearby sounds and conversations can be heard
normally, the earpiece anchors SoundPort's sleek, digital electronics,
creating an open, feather-light system that delivers the ultimate in freedom
and safety to work and drive while using a mobile phone.
SoundPort is part of the HearWireless family of audio solutions from
Starkey. ELI makes it easier for hearing aid users to go cellular. The tiny ELI
plugs into the bottom of most behind-the-ear hearing aids, essentially
turning them into wireless cell phone headsets and eliminating the
static that often occurs when hearing aids and mobile phones interact. A
miniature microphone transmits the wearer's voice back to the phone.
And for people who use in-the-ear hearing aids, another version of ELI is
available that hangs on a cord around the neck. ELI was named on of
Time Magazine's Most Amazing Inventions of 2005 and is part of the
HearWireless family of audio solutions from Starkey.
